Tapiwanashe “Carlie” Makarawu is a Zimbabwean sprint talent and one of the most exciting athletes to emerge from southern Africa in recent years.
Originally from Harare, Carlie rose through the ranks of junior athletics in Zimbabwe before relocating to the United States to further his education and athletic development. His early collegiate career at New Mexico Junior College saw him dominate the junior college circuit, earning national titles and recognition as a rising star in the sprint world.
He later transferred to the University of Kentucky, where he made an immediate impact at NCAA level. Known for his composure under pressure and effortless sprinting style, Carlie has earned accolades on both the national and international stage, representing Zimbabwe at major championships including the Olympics, African Championships, and World Athletics events.
While officially registered under his birth name Tapiwanashe, he competes as “Carlie” — a name that has become familiar to fans, broadcasters, and athletics media alike.
Now signed to Astra Partners, Carlie is focused on taking his career to the next level — building his legacy both on and off the track.
