Marco Arop is a professional middle-distance runner specializing in the 800 meters. Born on September 20, 1998, in Khartoum, Sudan, Marco moved to Canada at a young age, where he developed his passion for athletics. He attended Mississippi State University, where he excelled both academically and athletically, quickly making a name for himself in collegiate track and field.

Arop’s breakthrough came in 2018 when he won the bronze medal at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, followed by a silver medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. His dedication and talent have seen him represent Canada at various international competitions, including the World Athletics Championships and the Olympic Games.

Marco’s personal best in the 800 meters is an impressive 1:41.20 set at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he secured a silver medal. This time also stands as the Canadian national record for the 800 meters. In addition to his national record, he has consistently achieved top finishes in Diamond League meets and other major international competitions.

Known for his powerful finishing kick and strategic racing style, Marco has continued to improve his personal bests and achieve podium finishes. Off the track, he is recognized for his humility, strong work ethic, and commitment to inspiring the next generation of athletes.
