Eleanor Patterson wins Commonwealth high jump gold in Glasgow

Team Astra athlete Eleanor Patterson claimed women’s high jump gold for Australia with a record-equalling clearance of 1.96m at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Patterson produced the decisive jump on her third attempt at 1.96m, matching the Commonwealth Games record first established by South Africa’s Hestrie Cloete in 2002. Australian teammate Nicola Olyslagers took silver, with Nigeria’s Temitope Adeshina securing bronze.

With the title secured, Patterson raised the bar to 2.00m as she attempted to take the Games record outright. Although she was unable to clear the height, her 1.96m effort was enough to secure gold and equal the long-standing championship mark.

The victory marks a memorable return to the city where Patterson won her first Commonwealth title as an 18-year-old at Glasgow 2014. She went on to claim silver at Birmingham 2022, making this her second Commonwealth gold and third medal from three Games appearances.

Twelve years after first standing on top of the podium in Glasgow, Patterson has now done it again—adding another major title to an outstanding international career.
